Military One Source (MOS) Offers short-term, solution-focused financial services, primarily for active-duty, Guard and Reserve members and their families. Accredited financial counselors help with eliminating debt, growing a nest egg, or making plans for filing a tax return. Resources and calculators on many financial topics are available on the website or call 1-800-342-9647 Money Management International (MMI) (Excellent website!) This agency is the only credit counseling agency to which Airman and Family Readiness Center staff may refer clients Formerly known as Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS®), MMI provides non-profit credit counseling and offers solutions and tools to help clients achieve their financial goals. MMI provides professional financial guidance, counseling, education services, and educational programs by phone (866-531-3765), Internet, and in-person sessions (4407 N. Division, Ste 814, Spokane, WA) Numerous articles, calculators and other resources on the website provide information on any topic dealing with finances There is no fee or obligation for clients engaging in a counseling session. Normally, if a client chooses to establish a Debt Management Plan, there will be a one time set-up charge and a monthly fee to contribute toward the cost of administering a Debt Management Plan. Active-duty military who obtain a referral to MMI through Military One Source (800-342-9647) may have the set-up charge waived Budget and Debt Counseling Free budget and debt counseling for help with budgeting, money management skills, and credit issues. Assessing current financial situation, developing a realistic spending plan, establishing achievable financial goals, and creating a personal action plan for success Debt Management When appropriate, MMI serves as an impartial intermediary negotiating with creditors to establish a reasonable and mutually acceptable repayment plan Foreclosure Prevention MMI is approved by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help those who have fallen behind on mortgage payments Reverse Mortgage Counseling Learn how reverse mortgages work, the financial and tax implications of taking out a reverse mortgage, payment options, associated costs, and other available resources Bankruptcy Counseling Bankruptcy counseling (from an approved source) is now required before filing for bankruptcy; MMI is one approved source. A certified credit counselor helps clients develop a reasonable and manageable spending plan, a detailed action plan, and short and long-term financial goals Financial Workshops Educational programs extend beyond immediate credit problems to help clients improve their knowledge of personal finances, helping to maintain skills needed for long-term financial success Federal endorsement not intended.
